What to do
in the Event of A Dental Emergency
Toothache
Almost everyone knows the experience of suffering from a
bad toothache! Generally, a toothache can be the result
of many factors including hot or cold sensitivity, or sensitivity to
pressure. The pain can be sharp or dull and may
occur only when stimulated. The pain can last for
either a short time within about half a minute, or last
for a longer period of time such as 5 or more minutes.
A dull achy feeling is likely gum related and chances
are you simply need to schedule a cleaning.
Toothaches can be the cause of more serious conditions
like the presence of a cavity, an abscess, or trauma to
the face and/or teeth. A toothache can also be the
result of a medical condition which is not of a dental
origin. If left unchecked, a more serious and even life
threatening condition may result.
A sharp and brief feeling may be the result of a filling
that has come out exposing a root. Pain can also
result from a large chip broken from the tooth.
And if the pain slowly but surely subsides, then the
situation may be the nerve or something poked under the
gums.
In any case, please know that you must see a dentist and
not to prolong treatment. The cause of a toothache
will not permanently disappear. Early intervention
can mean saving a tooth, saving time and money on more
extensive treatment later. Even more seriously,
your overall health can be greatly affected in a
positive way.
