CROWNS

Crowns, also referred to as "caps", are coverings that fit over teeth. A crown, made of natural looking porcelain, is the restorative answer for old fillings which have broken down, and also for a fractured or chipped tooth. As well, a crown can shield a painfully, sensitive tooth. Of course, in addition to the crown's restorative application, cosmetically they greatly improve the appearance of natural teeth and are conducive to a billiant smile. Crowns are used to repair malformed or discoloured teeth as well. In some cases where additional strength is required, an underlying metal shell is used under the porcelain. A crown will strengthen and protect the remaining tooth structure especially in cases where there is more filling than tooth, extensive damage resulting from decay, compromised esthetics, or following root canal treatment.
